“Through our stories, through our words, we feel seen, we feel heard.”

I’m an Egyptian-American award-winning author, poet, and filmmaker driven by a deep love of capturing the human story and emotions.

My journey into understanding my inner and outer world started as a child when I spent countless hours observing other children. This stuck with me into adulthood as I grab a seat wherever I may be and sketch my observations with pen and paper or in the Notes app on my iPhone. As a young adult, I graduated from people watching to eavesdropping on conversations in coffee shops, a unique slice of life research.

I discovered that the more I tune into the lives of others, the more connected I feel to everyone and to the world around me.

In my award-winning book, Behind All the Tears, I share reflections and observations written on various continents over two decades. I share experiences of grief, trauma, heartbreak, marriage, divorce, racism and domestic abuse, intertwined with love, faith, hope and resilience.

I hope that my words will help my readers feel seen, heard, accepted, comforted, embraced. I hope I can connect to their hearts so they can never feel alone.

Besides poetry, I’ve written and produced films that have won numerous awards, including the Cannes Film Festival Emerging Filmmakers Showcase, the Telly Awards, the Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition, and the Diverse Voices Screenplay Competition.

I’ve earned a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, and was a freelance journalist in Egypt during the Egyptian Revolution. When I’m not lost in a sea of words, you'll catch me finding joy in the little things—like funny penguin videos, the soothing sound of water meeting water, and exploring the scenic trails of the Bay Area.
